Introduction
A quick word from me before I start this blogging malarkey…
Ben ‘n’ Guy, the dynamic three-syllable rhythm section, will be posting enlightening and interesting blogs on their personal lives, states of mind and related ephemera. If you’re looking for similar nuggets and/or confessions from me, you’ll be disappointed. (That sounds pretty callous, doesn’t it? It’s not supposed to…) The truth is: I’m not a natural blogger. In fact, I’ve never even kept a diary.
For me, blogging is not a kind of global group therapy where anyone with a broadband connection can share my emotions and experiences. I’ve never felt the need to splurge the details of my personal life over the internet. It’s not that I’m trying to cultivate an “enigmatic frontman” persona, it’s just that my private life outside Galapagos is just that – private.
So, instead, I shall be using the Galapagos blog to share things with you that say something about my musical and cultural tastes. Perhaps this will build up an image of what I’m trying to achieve in Galapagos, what has influenced my songwriting and what I feel music should do in a wider context. (I think music provides so much more than just a pretty tune to sing in the shower. It has a broader purpose and meaning. For some this may be personal or spiritual, for others social or political. But that’s something for another blog, methinks…)
Bye for now.
J
